Safeguarding

This policy sets out how Suffolk Coastal Poverty Action protects its service users – adults at risk – as well as associated children and young people, making safeguarding a core responsibility of the organisation. It explains that everyone connected with SCPA—staff, trustees, volunteers, and partners—must remain alert to signs of harm, respond appropriately to concerns, and follow clear reporting routes. The document emphasises that safeguarding is not only about reacting to abuse but also about creating safe, respectful environments where people feel able to speak up.

SCPA needs a formal safeguarding policy because it works directly with individuals and families who may already be vulnerable. A clear policy ensures consistent practice, legal compliance, and accountability. It also builds trust with the community, funders, and partner agencies by demonstrating that SCPA takes protection seriously and acts swiftly when concerns arise. Ultimately, the policy safeguards both the people SCPA supports, our staff and volunteers and the integrity of the organisation itself.
