One of the root causes of poverty is being out of work. SCPA seeks to help change that. We run employability courses or ‘Job Clubs’ to help give people the tools and confidence they need to take charge and move forward in their employment journey.
The employment support course is free and open to all those who live in the postcodes we serve (IP12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and NR34). A typical course will run once per week over a period of 8 weeks (usually avoiding school holidays). The course can be tailored to group needs but typically includes:
- Looking at motivations and barriers towards work
- Strengths and skills we bring to the table and how best to frame those skills for a potential employer
- What employers look for and the plus side to volunteering
- CV writing
- Succeeding in interviews
- Getting ready for work
